100ml Decorative Ceramic Reed Diffuser Gift set
About Reed diffusers
Reed diffusers are a popular way to add fragrance to a home. The reeds are placed in a vase or other base of scented reed diffuser oil and the oil travels through channels in the hollow reeds allowing the scent to evaporate into the air. A diffuser has an aesthetic appeal because of the variety of bases, colors and the natural look of the reeds themselves. They are often used as part of a home's decor.FunctionReed diffusers are used to add fragrance to an area or room. To use, fill the base of the diffuser with a scented oil specifically formulated for reed diffusion. Place the reeds inside the base and allow the reeds to draw the oil up into the air. When needed, flip the reeds for an additional burst of fragrance. A reed diffuser should emit fragrance for several months.
HistoryReed diffusers have been used in Europe for a long time as a homemade air freshener but were introduced to the United States in 2000. Within a few years they were a multi-million-dollar business. Originally sold in high-end stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, reed diffusers are now sold everywhere. Their modern look has made them a staple of home decorating.
BenefitsUnlike candles and many scented oils, reed diffusers do not need heat or flame to work. This allows them to be used safely in any location without the use of an outlet or creating soot and dust. They can be used in offices, bedrooms, nursing homes and with children present. Reed diffusers do not require any special maintenance, just flip the reeds every so often and dust like any other home accessory.
MisconceptionsThe reeds are made of rattan, a type of fast-growing vine that is cut into lengths and dried. Rattan has an inner core with many hollow tubes that cover the length of the reed. This is what allows the oil to soak up the reeds. Bamboo is also hollow, but it contains nodes or knots in the middle that will block the flow of oil. Bamboo and other types of wood are not porous enough to absorb and diffuse oil.
ConsiderationsThe oil must be formulated for reed diffusers. Many scented oils are too heavy and thick and will be unable to travel up the thin hollows of a rattan reed. Even essential oils must be refined before using in a reed diffuser. You cannot reuse reeds with different fragrances since the oil permeates the reed. Reeds can be reused with the same fragrance but may wear out or become clogged if used for too long.
